An application is before Council for a permit to establish a lemon tree orchard of 1,000 trees. The land is Rural Conservation Zone 4 and 5 with an Environmental Significance Overlay (ESO) and a Wildfire Management Overlay (WMO). Our informant alleges that the landholder has cleared 6 acres of vegetation without a permit and burnt the evidence (approximately 60 trees). The application should be for a permit to clear but it appears that there has been no enforcement of the zoning rules by council. We will request a report from Council.
