An application for 6 units on this site was rejected by Council on the grounds that the proposed development was too dense. FoN opposed this application as an overdevelopment of the site and so did other residents.

Council, residents and Friends of Nillumbik were present at the VCAT hearing. We have not yet been advised of VCAT's decision.

We regret to advise that VCAT has allowed this over development to go ahead. Whilst it may not have changed the verdict it would have been good if objectors to the development had been able to rely on the Hurstbridge Township Strategy of 2002 but unfortunately this has not yet been incorporated into the Nillumbik Planning Scheme. Nillumbik Shire Council has now put out Amendment C60 for public consideration. This amendment will help to protect our heritage township and its iconic streetscape from further inappropriate development preserving the features of our township which we so value. We urge you to write in supporting Amendment C60. See our home page for details.
