If you care about Nillumbik’s future
Help write a council plan which properly protects our Green Wedge
Council is charting a course for the next 4 years and beyond, and they want the community’s help.
The Community Vision and Council Plan (out in draft) are the two most important guiding documents councillors will approve during their term. We must make sure they are fit-for-purpose for our Green Wedge Shire, which was planned to be, “the conservation council with the green wedge as its strategic focus” (Govt report, 1994)
Our community has always supported this special role for Nillumbik, as shown once again in council’s latest survey, ‘Our People, Our Place, Our Future’ where the top three things valued by residents were: 1. Preservation of the Green Wedge 2. Protection of environment and biodiversity 3. Action on climate change.
The Community Vision and Council Plan must reaffirm these priorities upfront and indicate how action will be taken on each. The draft versions don’t do this – yet.
Help our councillors rewrite their Plan and Vision so our role as custodians of ‘the lungs of Melbourne’ with its unique flora, fauna and landscape, is made clear.
Your submission must get to Council by 11.59pm, Thursday August 26th
Use your own words where possible. Follow the attached two guides.
